The station of the 2024 Olympic Games: Saint-Denis-Pleyel in Paris

After seven years of construction, Saint-Denis-Pleyel station was opened by Emmanuel Macron in June 2024. Saint-Denis-Pleyel station is the new landmark and a central connection point between the city center and the north. Saint-Denis - Pleyel is the only station in the Grand Paris Express network that can transport more than 250,000 passengers a day. From there, it is possible to reach Orly Airport in just 40 minutes. The station also offers connections to the Paris Métro, the RER. It is also of strategic importance for the Olympic Games: it is the intersection of three important Olympic sites, the 52-hectare Olympic Village, the Centre Aquatique Olympique and the Stade de France.

Après sept ans de travaux, la gare Saint-Denis-Pleyel a été inaugurée par Emmanuel Macron en juin 2024. La gare Saint-Denis-Pleyel est le nouveau point de connexion central entre le centre-ville et le nord. Saint-Denis - Pleyel est la seule gare du réseau Grand Paris Express à pouvoir transporter plus de 250 000 voyageurs par jour. De là, il est possible de rejoindre l'aéroport d'Orly en 40 minutes. La gare offre également des correspondances avec le métro parisien ainsi que le RER. Elle revêt également une importance stratégique pour les Jeux olympiques 2024: elle est à l'intersection de trois sites Olympiques importants, le Village Olympique de 52 hectares, le Centre aquatique Olympique et le Stade de France.

This major hub, designed by Japanese architecture firm Kengo Kuma, promises to transform the urban landscape and strengthen the transportation infrastructure. The project opens up the Porte-Saint-Denis district by connecting the two sides of the city. The architects constructed the building with a total of nine levels - four of which are below ground - that run upwards in layers. Kuma's vision was to place culture at the heart of economic and social development.

The station is therefore not only a central transport hub, but also an important cultural venue for the entire region: the building includes a shopping center, a cinema and an exhibition of contemporary art by Prune Nourry integrated into the architecture. A central element of the planning was the creation of generous public spaces. With its approx. 8,000 m2, the esplanade in front of the station offers sufficient space for travelers and is also designed as a central meeting point.

Ce grand pôle, conçu par l'agence d'architecture Kengo Kuma, a permis de transformer le paysage urbain et de renforcer les infrastructures de transport. Le projet ouvre le quartier de la Porte-Saint-Denis en reliant les deux côtés de la ville. Les architectes ont construit le bâtiment sur un total de neuf niveaux - dont quatre souterrains. La vision de Kuma était de placer la culture au cœur du développement économique et social.

La gare n'est donc pas seulement un centre de transport central, mais aussi un lieu culturel important pour toute la région : le bâtiment comprend un centre commercial, un cinéma et une exposition d'art contemporain de Prune Nourry intégrée à l'architecture. La création d'espaces publics généreux a constitué un élément central de la planification. Avec ses quelque 8 000 m2, l'esplanade devant la gare offre suffisamment d'espace aux voyageurs et est également conçue comme un point de rencontre central.

"We are very proud to be involved as co-protagonists in this prestigious project for the city of Paris. The surfaces of the outdoor area - the square, the ramp and the steps - are exclusively covered with GODELMANN products," says Bernhard Godelmann. High-quality concrete blocks of the type GDM.SCADA stone finerro plus in the color silver-grey were installed. Thanks to the light-colored surface, the paving reflects the heat of the sun's rays and thus protects against the square heating up. In combination with the trees, an invigorating esplanade has been created in front of the station building.

« Nous sommes très fiers d'être impliqués en tant que co-protagonistes dans ce projet prestigieux pour la ville de Paris. Les surfaces de l'espace extérieur - la place, la rampe et les marches - sont exclusivement recouvertes de produits GODELMANN », déclare Bernhard Godelmann. Des blocs de béton de haute qualité du type GDM.SCADA stone finerro plus dans la couleur gris argenté ont été installés. Grâce à sa surface claire, le pavage reflète la chaleur des rayons du soleil et protège ainsi la place de l'échauffement. En combinaison avec les arbres, une esplanade vivifiante a été créée devant le bâtiment de la gare.
