Wall tiles in the look of GDM.SHOU SUGI BAN tile, a centuries-old technique for preserving wood, cover the new wellness area of the Gut Pössnitzberg wine hotel in Leutschach, Austria. A beautiful piece of Japanese design in southern Styria.
The process of charring wooden surfaces to make them more robust and resistant to decay is not unknown in Europe either. For example, for use in façade cladding. However, the Japanese developed the method to mastery early on by designing - and creating - entire buildings from scratch using firewood. The carbonized material impresses with its unique appearance with extremely striking surface structures and shimmering colors that alternate between anthracite, black and silver.
A strong yet unmistakable look that inspired our stone developers to create the GDM.SHOU SUGI BAN tile wall tile. Handmade with architectural concrete according to our own recipe, the pieces are even finer and more valuable than products in the highest exposed concrete class (SB 4). The slender transom format of 100 x 20 cm is a treat with its elegant size and also blends in with contemporary architecture. Selected materials with all the quality advantages for a long life, even outdoors, are also used. The architects of the new design particularly emphasize the visual appeal: "The varied texture and depth of the surface is very impressive and gives the room a very special ambience." This probably also refers to the warm feel-good atmosphere in the wellness oasis, which the hotel attaches great importance to.
