The municipality of Jettingen, with around 8,000 inhabitants, was formed in 1971 from the two municipalities of Oberjettingen and Unterjettingen. A new town center was built right in between, where the town hall has stood alongside a multi-purpose hall and a school since 1982. A barrier-free, modern, open town center with seating and water elements now stands in front of it. GDM.KLIMASTEIN was chosen for the ecological surface covering of the partnership square. Like a sponge, its porous intermediate layer absorbs the precipitation, stores it and releases it again.
The GDM.KLIMASTEIN also protects the groundwater through DIBt-approved pollutant retention and promotes clean groundwater recharge. The use of this stone helps to prevent localized flooding by preventing water from flowing off the surface. This relieves the burden on the sewer network and thus saves rainwater charges and investment in drainage systems. Thanks to these properties, the GDM.KLIMASTEIN makes a significant contribution to ecological sustainability and to improving the urban microclimate.
