Austria's municipalities are allowed to designate meeting zones since 2013. The Tyrolean municipality of Prutz showed interest and, following a feasibility study and public participation, made its "long-cherished wish" for a traffic-calmed and liveable village center come true. In the course of the project, the village square was upgraded and made tangible as a design unit together with the adjacent L18 provincial road, including the use of colored asphalt in the tone of the new paving. In the entire area and in the other sections of the project, all road users now have equal rights and a maximum speed limit of 20 km/h.
